Dowling PTO

Read-a-thon Will Kick Off Next Friday, March 6

The Dowling Read-a-thon has been rescheduled for March 6-27!

This year's theme is “The Case of the Missing Read-a-thon,” and the fun starts with a kickoff celebration at school on March 6. Each student will get a free Read-a-thon T-shirt and an envelope to track the minutes they read. Any students participating in online learning will have these items sent to them.

The envelope also includes information about collecting pledges for reading. This is the PTO's largest fundraiser and helps fund grants for teacher supplies, classroom trips, and more. Fundraising is not required to participate. All students who turn in an envelope at the end of the Read-a-thon are eligible for raffle prizes.

The Read-a-thon wraps up with a schoolwide celebration later in the spring, and includes classroom prizes, a prize for the top class by minutes read for K-2nd grade and for 3rd-5th grade, and certificates for the top 5 readers per grade.

From the Health Office

Vision screening for grades K, 1, 3, and 5 was completed Tuesday, 2/24, by Phillips Eye Institute.  If your student did NOT pass the screening, a referral letter will be sent home with your student in the next 1-2 weeks.  Also, a representative from Phillips Eye Institute (not Dowling staff) will be contacting parents/guardians to ask if assistance is needed with follow-up.  Phillips Eye Institute can assist with getting eye exams and eyeglasses at no cost if needed, so please let them know if you could use some help with this - it’s a wonderful resource!  If you do not get contacted by Phillips about your student’s screening, you can assume that they passed and no action is needed.  Questions?  Call Roxanne, RN, Lic. School Nurse, at 612-668-4416 or email me at roxanne.truen@mpls.k12.mn.us.
