My name is Ellie Karr and I will be your student’s teacher this year at Dowling Elementary School. This is my second year teaching at Dowling. I come to Dowling with 10 years of teaching experience, and 8 of those years in reading intervention. I have two kids, Brynna and Owen, and a puppy, named Molly. When I am not teaching, I love hiking, drawing, and playing with my kids. I enjoy coffee and collecting new picture books! I am also a Dowling parent. I love the Dowling Community and am very excited to be a part of it in this new way.
I received my Master’s in Education from the University of Minnesota. This is my fourth year at Dowling and my ninth year working in Minneapolis Public Schools. Prior to getting my teaching license, I worked as a special education assistant and a reading tutor with the Minnesota Reading Corps. I strongly believe in every child’s ability to not only learn, but to love learning!
I grew up in the Twin Cities and now live just a few miles from Dowling. I live with my sister, three cats, dog, and two leopard geckos! When I am not busy caring for all of our animals, I enjoy painting, reading, pottery, playing board games, and spending time outside canoeing and camping.
